Wins and Losses

We visited the park this week.

We visited the park this week.

Happy Friday! It’s been a pretty fun and fast week here. The sun has been (mostly) shining, and I’ve been making some good progress on my goals and routines. This weekend a whole mess of family is descending on my household for a visit, so as you read this I’m probably flying around my apartment, cleaning feverishly.

I also finally got my newsletter launched, so now you can officially sign up for my newsletter using the widget in the sidebar! This is something I’ve been wanting to do for quite awhile, so I’m happy that it’s finally up and running. I plan on releasing a once-weekly newsletter, starting in a few weeks. It’ll feature content that won’t be on the blog, and will be much more personal, more one-on-one.

If you subscribe, you’ll also be the first to receive some resources I’m working on releasing in the next few months. Think free worksheets, videos, checklists, and spreadsheets, all centred around paying off debt and saving money.

If this sounds up your alley, great! You can sign up using the widget on the sidebar. Even if you’re on the fence, you can unsubscribe at any time, and you have my solemn promise never to spam you or sell your email address. Ok, enough with my little pitch, on to my biggest wins and losses of the week:

Big Wins This Week

The biggest win this week was putting $500 towards my house down payment fund. I’ve had that money sitting in a savings account for a while, and after Wednesday’s post I was inspired to bite the bullet and move it into my TFSA. This new contribution brings my house down payment fund up to almost $3,500. Still pennies in the grand scheme of things, but you have to start somewhere, right?

Big Losses This Week

I’ve been dealing with some back pain this week, and it’s hurting my productivity. I think it’s a combination of adjusting to the forward position of my new bicycle (my old one was quite upright), sitting at a desk for nine hours a day, and poor sleeping positions. I’ve been doing some research to help fix all of these issues, but progress has been slow.

If things don’t improve, I’m going to go visit a massage therapist. Self-care is important.

Content I Loved This Week

I’ve always looked up to Bridget from Money After Graduation because her writing is so on-point and no-nonsense, and the progress she’s made with her finances since starting her blog four years ago is just insane. So I’m really happy to say I adore her website’s new look, and if you haven’t checked it out yet, you totally should.

Alicia from Financial Diffraction reached five figures in her retirement account! She and I have been neck and neck on this for awhile, and she’s reached this goal before me. I’m about $500 away from getting $10,000 in my RRSP, and if the market would cooperate I should reach this goal soon too.

Finally, I got a few comments from my blog posts about buying a bike that were basically “I’d like to ride a bike, but I don’t feel comfortable/drivers are crazy/I don’t know where to start.” I wanted to share with you this hilarious blog I came across called Bikeyface. It’s basically a blog about cycling as a normal person, not some spandex clad speed demon. The illustrations represent so much of what I experience day-to-day on my bike, and anyone considering getting started with cycling will find her how-to posts illuminating.

How did your week go, have you had any big wins or losses? I want to know!
