On Feeling Uninspired and Creating an Editorial Calendar

I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but the blog posting frequency has been on the down side these last few months at MAL. I just haven’t been feeling like writing. I feel like I have nothing left to talk about. This tweet I exchanged with Financial Diffraction earlier this week pretty much sums it up:

I don’t think it’s just me, this post from Tales from the Trenches echoes my thoughts exactly. That said, I’m not about to take a hiatus, although I did have an odd dream about accidentally deleting the blog and starting another blog in an entirely new genre. No, I’m just going to stop giving myself such a hard time for not putting out mind blowing blog posts like Money After Graduation manages to do, and just…blog. About money. About my pets. About whatever the hell I want.

To help with this, and to help me have a clearer focus on the things I want to write about, I’ve gotten back into the habit of sticking with an editorial calendar. Here she is (click to enlarge):

What, did you actually think I was going to share the next month of topics with you? Having this calendar with a full blown set of topics has really put my mind at ease. This is all stuff I’ve been wanting to write about for quite some time, but haven’t been able to find the motivation. Well, motivation is here and her name is Edith the editorial calendar.

Sure, having an editorial calendar isn’t as simple as the willy nilly approach I’ve taken in the past, but that doesn’t seem to be working, so like everything else in my life, I’m going to plan the bejesus out of it.

Speaking of planning, my planning has paid off: I’m only $200 away from completing my emergency fund goal for the year. Some freelance income just came in and my emergency fund is OFFICIALLY FULL! Wahhhhoooooo! *Does awkward but wildly enthusiastic dance*

Being debt free REALLY is all it’s cracked up to be, having savings REALLY is as amazing as everyone says, and I feel like life is about to hand me a huge set back, because things have just been too good to be true lately.
