versatile-blogger-awardThis blog post seemed like an appropriate topic to tackle on a Friday, before getting into the much more serious business of calculating whether I can actually get to a $25k net worth by age 25. I’ll leave that until next week. Thanks to The Money Pincher and my friend Jess at Mo’ Money Mo’ Houses for the nomination, you guys rock my socks!

Now, here are 7 things you didn’t know about me:

1. I was utterly horse crazy growing up.

Like stars-in-her-eyes totally pony crazy from the age of five. I started riding lessons at age 7 after begging my parents incessantly. My sister got involved too and together we managed to plead our way into getting our very own horse. As the years went on, more horses came along, we built a barn, pastures and arena in my backyard, and it all culminated in me getting my very own not-sharing-with-anyone horse named Oliver. I taught him everything he knows (he was just a baby when I got him) and we had some of the most amazing summers together when I was a teenager. He was my best buddy growing up, and he still lives on the property with my Dad.

2. I’m from the east coast but I hate lobster.

Lobster, and clams, and oysters, and mussels, I hate it all. Who wants to eat cold, gooey fishy tasting meat? Not me. Even dipped in melted butter, I still can’t see the appeal of eating this stuff. This has always been a little weird at big lobster boils or when everyone gathers around a bowl of freshly steamed mussels and I abstain, but I’m ok with being the only person in the room who doesn’t like that stuff. Plus, fishing is awful for the ocean, so I don’t feel like seafood is something I should learn to like. I do love a good fish and chips, and salmon is delicious, but you can keep your crustaceans.

3. My secret food indulgence is McDonald’s french fries.

I know they’re bad for me, I know McDonald’s is a bad corporation that doesn’t pay their employees enough to keep them off food stamps, but if I’ve been out for the night, and I need nourishment, my favourite food to grab is a medium order of McDonald’s french fries. I did this once or twice on the way back to the hotel in New Orleans, and I think I filled my fast food quota for the entire year.

4. My middle name was my first name for the first two weeks of my life.

That’s right, when I was born my parents named me Mallory, and then they decided two weeks later they preferred my then middle name, Jordann. So they switched it. Unfortunately when they switched it, the birth certificate came back spelled wrong, but that’s a story we’ve already been over, and it’s since been remedied.

5. I went to Italy in grade 11.

When we go to Paris in December, it’ll be my husband’s first time going to Europe, but I’ve actually been there twice. The first time was with a class trip to Italy. We rent to Rome, Florence, Tuscany, Capri, and Sorrento. Then a few years later I went on a trade mission to France and the UK. Both trips were fun and I’m excited to go back and take my time exploring.

6. I have a phobia of traffic.

A lovely remnant of my car crash three years ago, I get really stressed out and anxious in traffic. Although the severity of my phobia has decreased a ton, I still get anxious when I have to drive to certain parts of the city. Fortunately it’s a lot less bad when I’m a passenger, and my husband is extremely understanding of my weird issues around driving. I’d like to get completely back to normal eventually, but it’s tough when getting out of my comfort zone involves panic.

The car crash resulted in one totalled car, one broken wrist, and one traffic phobia.

7. I don’t know my left from my right.

Ok I do, but I mix them up constantly. When I’m driving some place new with my husband, I always just point him in the direction he’s supposed to go, because if I try to verbally indicate left or right, I’ll mix it up at least 50% of the time.

Ok, on to the nominations, I’m supposed to nominate 7 people to continue on this fun little trend, so here we go (advance apologies to any of you who have already been nominated):

Thanks again for the nominations guys, have a great weekend everyone!
