We are officially done the first week of April and yesterday I divided up my husband’s paycheque into several different savings accounts for the first time. It felt great to send cash to retirement (although that fund has been performing terribly of late), travel and other savings goals. We’re finally back on track.
Big Wins This Week
This week I stuck to my goal of getting up at 6am every morning and writing. I’ve been settling on what to do during the magic hour of 6am to 7am, whether I should just write or write and answer emails or write and answer emails and respond to blog comments. I tried each option for a day, and I think sticking to just writing is the best way to make this routine work.
I need to do those other tasks. But there’s a time and a place, and 6am is not that time. There’s something about getting up and just being creative without the pull of emails and other distractions that makes the ring of my alarm at 6am a little less jarring. I’m a little less tempted to hit the snooze button if I know I get to be creative for the next hour.
I also filed my tax return this week. I’m usually very on the ball with the whole filing thing but this year I procrastinated unusually long. It’s done now though and I’m looking forward to receiving my $1,200 tax return in eight days or so. I’m going to use the money to pay my husband’s outstanding tax bill (he was an entrepreneur last year and ended up owing $350) and the rest will be going straight into my Future Fund. Yippee!
Big Losses This Week
It won’t stop snowing! It snowed twice this week. Both times I woke up and looked out the window and literally groaned. I am sick of snow. I want green grass and sunshine, and to be able to walk down the sidewalk without fear of slipping and falling. Is that so much to ask for the first week of April? This weekend we’re supposed to get some warmer weather and rain, which will hopefully melt some of this cursed snow.
Maybe I’ll finally get a run in?
