Wins and Losses

wins-and-losses

Back to the country I go.

Today is the first day of a three-week stay in my hometown. I’m here for work, helping cover the responsibilities of an employee who is taking a well-deserved vacation. I’m going to miss the city, but I’ll be back, and I’ve been away for longer.

In some ways, taking this trip is a good thing. Getting out of routine is a great way to shake things up and focus on specific projects without the responsibilities of life nagging at you. I just have to be mindful not to let all of the good habits I’ve built up fall by the wayside. I’m still going to try and get up at 6am to write, I’m still going to try to exercise every day, and I’m still going to make time to meditate.

Big Wins This Week

This week I deposited my income tax return and some freelance income into my house down payment fund. This fund is now at $2,995, or almost two-thirds completed. I’m super happy with this, and I plan to keep chucking cash at this account until there’s at least $5,000 in it, hopefully, more.

Also, Spring has finally sprung! It’s finally warm here, and I can’t tell you how happy that makes me. The snow is melting, flowers are starting to push their first shoots through the mud and the sidewalks are finally clear enough to go for a run, which I have, twice.

Big Losses This Week

Heading home for three weeks is a pretty big loss for me. I’m excited to see family, but I’m going to miss my husband dearly. We’re like two peas in a pod most of the time, so prolonged separation like this tends to make me sad. Fortunately, he’s coming home on weekends to visit, and I’m going to have my dog with me for the first week, which should cut the loneliness quite a bit.

Posts I Liked This Week

On a recommendation from Blonde on a Budget, I listen to the podcast The School of Greatness by Lewis Howes. I find his podcasts to be inspiring and uplifting, but this week’s show about dealing with toxic relationships just blew me away. When he and guest Chris Lee were describing the traits of toxic relationships, I was almost exclaiming back to them “Yup! That’s so-and-so!”. It made me think long and hard about who I allow into my life and why. I highly recommend to give it a listen.

The other post I enjoyed this week was from Money After Graduation called Pay Your F#$%ing Debt. I love Bridget for her no-nonsense approach to debt repayment and wealth building, and this post is quintessential Bridget. If you need a kick in the butt to get your debt repayment underway, this is the post for you.

Tell me about the ups and downs of your week. I want to know!
