wins-and-losses-3

I’ve been in the back in my hometown for a week now, and I’ve got another ten days to go. I don’t mind being in my hometown, I like visiting with family, but I do miss the city, and I miss my husband terribly. Fortunately, he made the drive down to see me yesterday and will be visiting all weekend, which will go a long way to helping me stop missing him so much.

Big Wins This Week

I secured more freelance work, which is great news! I was off the freelance writing wagon for a little while there, feeling burned out. But now that I’ve taken a break, I’m ready to tackle some new writing challenges – plus the money is nice. I’ll be putting most of my freelance income towards my house down payment fund, with the occasional $100 kept back to spend on things for the house or clothing.

Big Losses This Week

My routine has suffered since I got home, as I knew it would. Before I left, I was doing a short workout every day, which now happens whenever I can fit it in, or about four times per week. I was also getting into a good groove with my guided meditation sessions, and I haven’t done that once since coming home.

The one thing that I’ve refused to give up in my routine is getting up at 6:00am to write. There are two reasons I’ve been so stubborn about this:

1) It took a long time for getting up this early to become a habit, and I don’t want to give that up. It was also hard to do at first, and I don’t want to go through that again.

2) Finding time to write when staying with family can be hard, because I often feel like I need to socialize in the evening. Fortunately, no one is awake at 6:00am, so I can write undisturbed and without feeling like I need to be hanging out with people.

But it’s been tough to get up this early every day. Like, really tough. Being in a strange place means I often get a terrible sleep, which you may recall is the number one cause of my Bad Days. On those days, it’s so tempting to shut my alarm off, burrow deeper into the pillows and sleep for another hour and a half before work starts.

But I persevere because I know how much power I’ve built behind this simple habit, and I don’t want to lose it.

Content The Resonated With Me This Week

First off, my friend Cait from Blonde on a Budget has released her first ever product. It’s a Mindful Budgeting package that will help you take your budgeting and your relationship with money to the next level. It looks amazing, and although I haven’t purchased it yet, I have no doubt it’s worth the money. Check it out and see for yourself.

The other post I wanted to mention was Sarah Peterson’s post on her website UnSettle. It’s about how we’ve all got other demands on our time, and that’s not an appropriate excuse for not reaching our goals. Of course, Sarah says it much more eloquently than that.

How was your week? Did you have any big wins or losses? I want to know!
