I go home today! Yes, my two-week stint in the countryside has come to an end and tonight I’ll be on my way back to the city. It’ll be a long trip, I’m taking the bus back because my husband and I only have one car, and he needed it for work. But I’m going to make the most of the bus ride and get some freelance work done.
This week was a bit of a roller coaster. I was covering one of my co-workers while she was on vacation, and I had to do a bunch of tasks I’m not familiar with, where making a mistake has the possibility of angering customers. Fortunately, I think I’ve made it through without making any big errors.
Big Wins This Week
I had some big professional wins this week. In my full-time job, I delivered a project I’ve been working on for a month or so, and the reception from both our customers and management was great. I’m taking this as a win and running with it.
I also got some good feedback on a freelance project, which was icing on the cake. Overall I think I’m doing well on the professional side of things. Woot!
I also kicked butt at meditating this week. I’ve always been an on-again, off-again meditator. Recently, I started meditating at around 2:00pm on weekdays, and I think this habit is going to stick. For the past three days in a row, I’ve taken 20 minutes out of my afternoon to shut off all of my screens, lay down on my office couch, and just focus on my breath.
The reason I’ve started this regular meditation practice is because of the app Headspace. I discovered it while listening to the Lewis Howes podcast and it has changed meditation for me. I’ll talk more about this in the Content I Loved section below.
Big Losses This Week
After five weeks of consistency, I did a terrible job getting up at 6:00am this week! I’m so disappointed with myself, all of that hard work! I’ve been staying up later than usual and as a result I’m finding it tough to sit up and write at this early hour.
Even though I’ve been doing a poor job with early rising this week, I’m not worried that this is going to become a trend. Once I get back to my home, my old routines will slip back into place. The early rising habit most of all, because my husband gets out of bed at 4:30am to go to work, the least I can do is get up at 6:00am.
Content I Loved This Week
Fellow blogger, Catherine from Plunged In Debt, wrote about how the journey to debt repayment does not (contrary to popular belief) start with a budget. I completely agree with her. The journey to debt repayment starts with spending tracking. Otherwise how can you expect to write a realistic budget.
I also stumbled upon the app Headspace this week, as I mentioned above. This app is a meditation app. It starts out with a free 10-day program to get you in the habit of meditating every day. The app has some cool animations and the narrator Andy comes up with cool analogies for the thoughts that run through your mind when meditating. I’m on day five of the program, and I’m hooked.
What were your wins and losses this week? I want to know!
